Hyland Granby - Cape Cod based dealers in marine antiques, marine paintings and marine folk art
Introduction
Hyland Granby Antiques was founded in 1976 by Janice Hyland and Alan Granby. The business specializes in buying and selling museum quality 18th & 19th Century marine antiques such as carved eagles, cannons, globes, and marine art / paintings by artists such as James Buttersworth and Antonio Jacobsen, important 19th century American ship portraitists. Alan Granby produced and edited a book titled: "A Yachtman's Eye" which was published in 2004. The book documents one man's collection, Glen Foster, involving the history of maritime art of the late 18th and 19th century with an emphasis on American and English yachting.
During 2005, Alan Granby has lectured about the Foster collection for the follwing institutions:
- New York Yacht Club, 44th Street Club House, New York City
- Museum of Yachting and Redwood Library, Newport, Rhode Island
- International Yacht Restoration School, Classic Yacht Regatta, Padanaram, MA.
- Nantucket Historical Society, Nantucket, MA.
- New York Yacht Club, Harbor Court, Newport, Rhode Island
Hyland Granby Antiques maintains a large inventory of museum quality maritime artifacts (marine antiques) and marine art. The firm has bought and sold many of the most important maritime artifacts to come on the market in the last thirty years, including furniture, clocks, scientific instruments, prints, 18th & 19th century marine paintings, ships models, scrimshaw, photographs and marine-related folk art . In addition to buying and selling, Hyland Granby Antiques provides a consulting service to help museum and private collectors in acquiring maritime objects and marine paintings.
Hyland Granby exhibits at six antiques shows during the year. Please refer to the show section of this website for exhibition details.
